SlideShow

Here is a great slideshow about the First Gulf War and about terrorism and the possibilities for the Second Gulf War and its environmental impacts. I really wanted to lay claim to this piece of media so my analysis and thoughts will follow when I come back from work later tonight

  1. This piece is interesting because of how it uses facts and figures BEFORE the commencement of hostilities as reasons why there should not be a war. It is strange to see so much evidence in this way, and it means even more now that we have a better picture of what the situation on the ground truly was prior to the invasion and occupation. This once again shows how we often act without considering the consequences. Or maybe this shows that we act and disregard the consequences since this slide show was created before the war started.

  2. True, this goes back to the post where we were discussing U.S. failure to take into account environmental impacts of war, even when they are aware of them. This is a huge problem, and I really hope the Obama administration can start to amend it.

  3. I was particularly struck by the slide that shows a picture of a family actually posing in front of the destruction in a Kuwait that is literally on fire. It is eerie to see humans, more specifically a family, which is supposedly the fundamental unit, in juxtaposition to such man-made and unnatural destruction. To me this echoes, in some metaphorical sense, the relation of all wars to the environment. They are a human invasion of land and a complete demolition and uprooting of natural order.
